STORY TIME!

Hello! I'm Jordane, owner of "Lafitte Music Center" (pronounce "luh-feet"), which was named after my late father Jean Lafitte, who gave me his passion for life mysteries and music.

Growing up in a dual-culture household, I quickly became fascinated by the relationship between Music Education and Culture: how music is felt differently from one culture to another, is talent just a perspective? How far can we go with the concept of "hearing"? How does music heal? Can I be a musician-healer-illusionnist too?

After many years of musical studies, I earned the 1st prize in Music Theory and a medal for my piano performance from the International Conservatory of Music of Paris, France.

Eager to experience other lifetyles, I started to travel, learn, teach and create music in several countries for 10 years. That helped me realize that music teaching isn't effective unless we train the ability to "hear" too. My role as a teacher is to tune to each student and guide the tune out.

By chance, I came across the Yamaha Music Education System, which had dramatic results on my students and has the balance I was looking for. It teaches by "ear" first until the music is felt. Children instantly capture the essence of music and are provided with tools to express it naturally. Yet the expectations are high and Yamaha students are confident, accomplished and creative! The teachers are going through extensive trainings to assure the most effective lesson. It is really fun to teach and to learn!

When my children were born, I pursued Early Childhood Education, where I discovered how the environment can also be an indirect teacher.

In the same line of thoughts, in 2014, we opened "The Lil' School", a preschool center, in Citrus Heights, CA, based on the Italian Reggio Emilia philosophy. (A well-rounded program where children are seen as independant thinkers, and where teachers help by providing them with new experiences whether direct or indirect).

Now that my children are age 4 and 6 and ask to learn music, I began to search for a Yamaha Music School in the area as well as an energic place to play music and listen to others, but couldn't find any!

Lafitte Music Center is simply born out of a passion and a need that may resonate with you too as a parent who wants their child or yourself to benefit from the most comprehensive music education available in a positive environment, as a musician wanting to network with others, as a creative soul wanting to learn, and as a life and community lover looking for local events.

Thank you for reading!
