About Bösendorfer

Viennese Craftsmanship

Each instrument takes up to one year to build and must meet strict quality control standards to ensure the very best. They are the only piano manufacturer in the world to build their pianos according to Viennese piano making traditions. It begins with the wood. Bösendorfer uses spruce which is air dried for up to 5 years. Unlike other manufacturers, they use more than 80% of this spruce to build their instruments because of its ability to carry sound along the grain. Bösendorfer then applies their resonance case principle which is a complex aspect of the Viennese tradition of piano making. Similar to a violin, they use the whole piano body, not just the soundboard to support sound formation. The result is incomparable resonance and a sound that is uniquely Bösendorfer.
